60's hit song
I've been trying, without success, to find a song that was called "Time"
I can't remember the artist, but some of the lines in the song went like "time can make a mountain from a drop of dew" "but to make me forget your love will take much more than time ... much more than time" The year would probably have been between 1960 and 1962. Can anyone remember this song and who performed it?
The title "Time" is song title number 465. If you had typed "Time" into the search box at the top of each page the first result would take you to a listing of songs called "Time" that had been hits somewhere. Only one of those is from the years you specify, it is the song you are looking for.
It entered the UK charts in Jul 1961 peaked at number 9 and was in the charts for 14 weeks

This recording was selected for Library of Congress (NRR) in 2008.
Yes, there are a number of songs that have been added since we got that listing, we will revisit soon
Thanks for reminding us

I can't see +"The Magnificent Seven" Theme
Well first of all the song was a bigger hit in 1961 (in Italy, Canada and the UK), it entered the Billboard charts in Dec 1960 but had a longer run in 1961. Secondly it was not a big enough hit to make the 1961 top 100 anyway.

the song is Corrine, Corrina
The song is also known using the name given here. There is not enough evidence to justify changing it (but thanks for the suggestion)

the right title is (I DON'T KNOW WHY) BUT I DO
Your suggestion is reasonable but, there are enough varients of this song name (with and without the brackets) that we don't feel the evidence is overwhealming for any one.

Excellent.
Thanks v much for putting all the work in. I'm off now to look up more of the songs of my youth - when I thought sex was something rich people put their coal in, and testosterone was a triangular-shaped +chocolate bar.

top 100 1961
What about The ECHOES, a NYC group and their song BABY BLUE...Did it not make your top 100 while it did make 66 on Billboard ???
Thanks
The Echoes song "Baby Blue" reached number 12 in the Billboard chart (and 8 in Canada) but is nowhere near the top 100 worldwide for the year.

Billy Vaughn's Wheels
I've been doing an online search of Billboard's "Hits of the World" charts from the late 50s/60s. Wheels by Billy Vaughn was also NO. 1 in New Zealand and India. Also Top 10 in Mexico and Japan, among others.
We have two different issues with the Billboard charts for other countries, first of all we would rather not use an American chart to measure success in New Zealand, India, Mexico and Japan, but more importantly the chart is not freely available.

Duplicated Entry (#66 & #68)
It appears that #66 "Elvis Presley - His Latest Flame" and #68 "Elvis Presley - (Marie's the Name) His Latest Flame" have been duplicated (it's the same song).
You are correct, the data has been fixed, thanks for the suggestion

Duplicated Entry?
As I was going through you list for 1961, I saw that entries for #92 and #93 may be duplicated. Both entries are for Clarence "Frogman" Henry. Number 92 is "But I Do" and Number 93 is "I Don't Know Why (But I Do)". They would seem to be the same song--one with an expanded title, the other with an abbreviated title.
You are correct, the data has been fixed, thanks for the input.

Theme from "A Summer Place"
We graduated in late May 1961.....and the #1 song was the Theme From A Summer Place by Percy Faith & his orchestra. Apparently it didn't make the top 100 of the year. Am I correct?
Thanks for great help!!!!!
If you look in our listing for 1960 you will see that Percy Faith's version of the song is listed there.
According to our data the song entered the Billboard charts in Jan 1960, entered the UK chart in Mar 1960, the New Zealand chart in Aug 1960 and got the Grammy for 1960 (awarded in 1961).

#1 song on 12/22/61
#1 song on 12/22/61
The first question is "where?", for example in Australia the number 1 song was "My Boomerang Won't Come Back" by Charlie Drake, in New Zealand it was "Big Bad John" by Jimmy Dean and in the UK it was "Tower Of Strength" by Frankie Vaughan.
Given that you have written your date in the American format we suspect that you meant what was the number 1 song in the US.
So the next question would be "according to who?", there are a variety of US charts both regional ones and national ones. From this period the CashBox Magazine charts are probably the best estimate of actual record sales (the Billboard charts were based on radio play).
However we suspect that you mean number 1 in the Billboard Hot 100 list which was:
"The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by The Tokens
