Top 10??
No way was Cliff Richard the number 1 for '63, when Beatles don't even make your Top 10! OK, CR did have great success that Year, but Beatles out-scored him twice over....and so did Elvis
The order is generated by their positions in the range of charts. Cliff Richard was a much bigger star than The Beatles in 1963, just look at where they each had hits. Of course by 1964 Cliff had dropped right off the list (and The Beatles, having broken the US were at the top).
I am sorry that the calculation does not match your personal opinion. But that is exactly the point, the data delivers this result and nobody's personal opinion has any bearing (not yours or mine)

60s chart
This really isn't that fair to put a lots of North American and German hitshere since Britain has long been the centre of the mainstream music till mid-70s. Another noticeble point is that in 60s there isn`t that much sales gap between number one and number two. Actually the score system of peak should changes with different time period ,seriously
If anything the UK is slightly over represented in the scoring system.
The whole point of the scoring system is that it is automatic, there are no special parameters to tweak and so no option for personal bias.
However if you come up with a better system then build your site. We look forward to seeing it.

A song omitted
Where is "Hello Dolly"?
Its listed in 1964, because that's when it was a hit. The song "Hello Dolly" was a hit for various artists (Frank Sinatra, Frankie Vaughan and Kenny Ball for example). The biggest hit was Louis Armstrong's version which entered the Billboard charts in Feb 1964, in fact it entered all its charts during 1964.

#76 - Peter, Paul & Mary
Blowin' In the Wind was also on RIAA 110.
The original RIAA list didn't include artists, Bob Dylan not only wrote it but also had a (slightly) bigger worldwide hit with the song than Peter, Paul & Mary so it was assigned to him, not them.

Mike Stone query of JAN 19, 2013
Mike Stone: it's an old oil field song (artists & years unknown) called "The Gates of Hell". Other lyrics besides the ones you listed are "...Black gold is the devil's treasure/Roused from the grave & crude is he." Hope that helps a bit. I couldn't find any listings for it, but sporadic hunts may turn it up in time w/ the proper worded query. Good luck.

Ballad of the Green Berets
Wasnt this song a number 1 hit in like 1963? During the Vietnam War.
Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler had a major hit with "Ballad of the Green Berets" in 1966.
Incidently the ONLY other hit that has "Green Beret" in its title was Nancy Ames song "He Wore The Green Beret" which was also a (very minor) hit in 1966

SONG
Wasn"t there a number 1 song entilded "I MET HER ON MONDAY" ??? Ron
According to our sources Horace Heidt released the song "I Met Her On Monday" in 1942 but it wasn't a hit.
That line has also been used in many other hits, for example The Crystals "Da Doo Ron Ron (When He Walked Me Home)", Craig David "7 Days" and Spinal Tap "Big Bottom".

1963 hit by black us group men and women all us marines - one was in my USC unit
I am looking for a 1963 or 1964 us hit record by a black group of men and women all members of the us marine corps
The obvious candidate would be "Ballad of the Green Berets" by Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler. Except that was 1966 and he wasn't black (we're almost certain).
So, no we don't have a clue.

Two Little Boys
OK, so what about this one?
Unfortunately the Rolf Harris song "Two Little Boys" (1969) was not a hit in the USA (we have entries listed as "UK 1 - Nov 1969 (25 weeks), Eire 1 for 6 weeks - Dec 1969, Australia Goset 8 - Jan 1970 (22 weeks), Springbok 16 - Feb 1970 (3 weeks), Australia 24 of 1970, TOTP 32, UKMIX 74, RYM 124 of 1969")
So not enough to make the world's top 100 (in 1969 or 1970).
Rolf's biggest hit (beating "Two Little Boys" by a narrow margin) was "Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport" (1963) - Australia 1 for 3 weeks - Jun 1960, Australia 2 of 1960, US Billboard 3 - Jun 1963 (11 weeks), NZ Lever 4 - Aug 1963 (3 weeks), UK 9 - Jul 1960 (13 weeks), RYM 19 of 1960, Canada 20 - Jul 1963 (4 weeks), US Radio 53 of 1963 (peak 3 7 weeks), WABC NY 80 of 1963
Even that didn't make the top 100 for its year

Bobby Bare
Could you tell me, please chart info for Bare's "500 Miles" and "American Boy" (recorded as Bill Parsons)?
Bobby Bare didn't have enough hits to have his own page, his 1963 hit "500 Miles Away From Home" Has the following entry: Canada 7 - Oct 1963 (11 weeks), Norway 7 - Dec 1963 (11 weeks), US Billboard 10 - Oct 1963 (11 weeks), US Radio 125 of 1963 (peak 10 4 weeks)
This was the second biggest of his 8 hits under his own name. The biggest was "Detroit City" - Norway 1 - Oct 1963 (22 weeks), US Billboard 16 - Jun 1963 (12 weeks), US Radio 152 of 1963 (peak 16 3 weeks), Acclaimed 1152 (1963)
There is only one hit under the name Bill Parsons, that is the 1958 hit "All American Boy" - US Billboard 2 - Dec 1958 (16 weeks), Canada 2 - Jan 1959 (11 weeks), UK 22 - Apr 1959 (2 weeks), US Radio 46 of 1959 (peak 2 9 weeks)

Bobby Bare
How did U.S. singer Bobby Bare with "Detroit City"? I Guessed, it was one of the biggest European hits of 1963? No. 1 in Norway and Sweden, Top 10 in Denmark and Top 40 in Germany.
"Detroit City" was by far Bobby Bare's biggest hit. However it was well below Elvis Presley's "Kiss Me Quick" in terms of European score. We estimate it was the 146th highest placed song of 1963.

Looking for song title
In 1963 (around November) there was a song by a female vocalist with the title that contained reference to Rio.
Can you remember it?
What was the tile and who sang it?
Help please Willem South Africa
The obvious candidate would be "The Girl From Ipanema" which was performed by various artists and was a hit for Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto in 1964. A number of versions by other artists were released towards the end of 1963
None of the songs with "Rio" in the title look like good candidates, "Roses of Rio" by The Four Aces and "La Luna nel rio" by Marisa Brando are both from the mid 1950s, "Rio" by "Os Cariocas" and "Im kleinen Dorf am Rio Grande" by Geschwister Leismann are from the right era but too obscure. "A Rainy Night in Rio" by Dinah Shore is too early, but probably the best option.

In those days of way back when I started listening to Radio Luxemburg late in the evening. So I recall all these songs at the threshold of British music invasion. Some titles I recall different from your list, as there are:
# 16 Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs # 48 Brian Poole & The Tremeloes # 71 Ruby & The Romantics # 95 Barbara Lewis & The Dells.
# 58 is spelled "Rote Lippen soll man Kuessen".
# 28 and # 52 are the same record.
Thanks for your fantastic work!
Let us start at the end, you suggest that "Devil In Disguise" and "(You're The) Devil in Disguise" are the same song, you are of course entirely correct. The data has been changed, thanks for the input.
Of course the issue here is that different source charts decided to pick either variation, neither could really said to be "wrong". However when we bring the data together we have to pick just one name for the song, so that all its chart entries can be listed.
Well we have the same issue with group names, except here of course we don't just have a single song, we have a whole career to deal with. So for example you are correct that the song "Do You Love Me?" was credited to "Brian Poole & the Tremeloes" in most locations, however they have more songs credited to "The Tremeloes". So in order to ensure that we associate all their material together we have to use the "wrong" name for that one song. We have added a note on to their page to outline some of this.
With "Ruby & The Romatics" we have the additional complication that some of their songs were credited to "The Romatics" and there was also a completely different group called the same name 20 years later.
Even working within these constraints you have identified some entries that need to be further corrected. We've tried to do that for the groups you mentioned, thanks again for the input.
Your knowledge of German is clearly much greater than ours so we have changed the spelling of Cliff Richard's song.
As I am sure you can imagine identifying these types of inconsistencies between our 150 input charts is a continual challenge. Your suggestions are appriciated.
