Buddy Holly and The Crickets

You have data from both "That'll Be the Day" and "Maybe Baby" under both Buddy Holly and The Crickets. Since they are the same recordings that would move both songs up in the ratings.

The data is fixed, thanks for the suggestion

question

I thought this is a list of all #1 in USA in 1958 but how come we have 100 songs on the list when the year has only 52 weeks?

You obviously didn't read the text on this page (or anywhere else on this site). This list is the 100 biggest songs of 1958 in the world (not just the US).

For example Dean Martin's version of "Volare" was a hit in Australia, the UK and Norway, while "Witch Doctor" by David Seville & The Chipmunks was only a hit in North America. That's why "Volare" (which peaked at 15 in Billboard) is above "Witch Doctor" (which got to number 1).

We list the US nunber ones elsewhere

The 3 Holidays

I am looking for info on 1958 band called "The 3 Holidays" I believe they started in Pittsburgh. Can you give me any info & hit songs. +THANKS

The closest we have are a group called "The Holidays" who had a single hit in 1966 "I'll Love You Forever" (Keener 13 - Mar 1966 (6 weeks), US Billboard 63 - May 1966 (9 weeks))

# 33 & 45 Come Prima

These two appear to be the same recording.

Tony Dallara was an Italian singer, of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Dalida (Yolanda Gigliotti) was a naturalised French singer (born in Cairo) who had hits in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. One was a man the other a woman. They are not the same person.

I recall arouind 1958 a female vocalist sang a song with a haunting refrain which included the phrase "you're almost in my arms...". Curious to know the title and artist if anyone knows the answer.

Words to a song

I heard a song and never caught much of it. The words I do remember are Honey come back. Any ideas?

9 Sep 2011

old song

What year did Michael Holyiday? sing "one day I'm going to write the story of my life",? because I heard it on the Radio on our Honeymoon 55 years ago, I'm just finishing my life story to leave to my children, that has been because I liked the song so much, what other songs did he sing?

Thank you

We don't have any idea when the song was released, however "The Story of My Life" became a hit (in the UK at least) in 1958 reaching: UK 1 - Jan 1958 (15 weeks), Radio Luxembourg sheet music 1 for 4 weeks - Feb 1958, Record Mirror 1 for 2 weeks - Feb 1958, RYM 140 of 1958, UKMIX 352

We don't have reliable French charts from that era. But that was his biggest hit (in those charts we have). Other songs of his that reached the charts were:

"Stairway of Love" (1958) - Radio Luxembourg sheet music 1 for 1 week - Jun 1958, UK 3 - May 1958 (13 weeks)

"Hot Diggity (Dog Ziggity Boom)" (1956) - Radio Luxembourg sheet music 1 for 3 weeks - Jun 1956, UK 14 - Jun 1956 (8 weeks)

"Starry Eyed" (1960) - UK 1 - Jan 1960 (13 weeks)

"Gal With the Yaller Shoes" (1956) - UK 13 - Jun 1956 (3 weeks)

"Nothin' to Do" (1956) - UK 20 - Mar 1956 (3 weeks)

"I'll Always Be in Love With You" (1958) - UK 27 - Jul 1958 (1 week)

"In Love" (1958) - UK 26 - Mar 1958 (3 weeks)

"Keep Your Heart" (1958) - RYM 140 of 1958

"Little Boy Lost" (1960) - UK 50 - Sep 1960 (1 week)

"Skylark" (1960) - UK 39 - Apr 1960 (3 weeks)

"Ten Thousand Miles" (1956) - UK 24 - Oct 1956 (3 weeks)

23 Mar 2011

I listened to Radio Luxembourg in the late fifties and one song still hauntsme to this day. All I can remember is one line "start moving in my direction and start our loving tonight" I would love to know the title and who sang it

The song is "Start Movin' (In My Direction)" by Sal Mineo and it was a hit in 1957 reaching number 4 in Canada, number 10 in the US and number 16 in the UK.

Perry Como 1958 Kewpie Doll

I noticed that the 1958 page (Version 1.8.0052) does NOT include Perry Como's Kewpie Doll. I believe this song entered the US chart on 4/26/1958 and peaked at #12 on May 24, and spent a total of 12 weeks on the Billboard chart altogether.

Thanks for this wonderful reference work!

The song is not listed on the 1958 page as, by our assessment method, it is only the 109th most successful song of that year (we only list the top 100 of each year). Of course the small number of charts for 1958 means that the difference between song #100 of the year and song #109 is fairly arbitrary, however this Perry Como song didn't quite make the cut.

If you look at Perry Como's page you will see that "Kewpie Doll" is listed there (as #28 in the 1.8.0052 data). As the entry there shows our information mostly agrees with yours, the song entered the Billboard charts in Apr 1958 and peaked at #12, however our listing says it spent 16 weeks in the top 100 rather than the 12 you have. According to our data it spent 12 weeks in the top 50. That listing also shows that the song peaked at #9 in the UK, #11 in Canada and is RYM's #192 of 1958.

It is always nice to be appreciated, thank you for your words of encouragement.
