#99 - Annie Get Your Gun
This should read Original Cast (rather than Original Soundtrack).
You are correct that since the original stage show was 1946 and the film was 1950 the 1958 version can't be "Original Soundtrack", but should it be "Original Cast"? Well we'll just go with your suggestion, thanks

Double Listing - Van Cliburn - Tchaikovsky
#12 & #39 are the same. As I pointed out in (2) previous e-mails, this albumwas also selected for Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002. I know you feel there is confusion between composer & performer. I wish you would reconsider that stand. The Hall of Fame website clearly shows this selection is a 1958 album by Van Cliburn.
Your comments about the inadequate data we have for the Grammy Hall of Fame have been noted. We agree we need to fix it, but its too much of a mess for our current available effort.
We'll put it on the list to consider when we have some time.

#1 - My Fair Lady/Frederick Loewe
I see that you are halfway there to straightening out this fiasco. Youtransferred (7) chart entries from this 1958 album to the 1956 My Fair Lady - Original Cast album. You still need to transfer the chart entry US 3X Platinum (1986) entry from here to the 1956 album. Then you need to delete the following (6) chart entries from here since they are already on the 1956 album.: 1. UK 1-156 weeks; 2. US Cashbox 1 1957; 3. US Number 1 - 8 weeks; 4. Library of Congress 1956; 5. Germany 1 for 96 weeks - July 1962; 6. Grammy Hall of Fame in 1977 (1956). That would just leave the (3) chart entries from 1964/1965 related to the My Fair Lady Soundtrack (which should be transferred there & deleted here). This should remove this album completely from 1958. This is probably clear as mud, huh?
We suspect you are being tricked by browser caches. Following the previous change you suggested we think there are now just listed 4 albums called "My Fair Lady".
The 1956 one credited to "Frederick Loewe", which is the original stage show, the 1957 "easy listening" one credited to "Percy Faith", the 1964 one credited to "Original Soundtrack" which is the film and the 1987 one credited to "Kiri Te Kanawa & Jeremy Irons".
Hopefully that resolves all the issues

#1 - Frederick Loewe - My Fair Lady
I think I have the solution to the My Fair Lady problem (see my 12 Dec 2014 e-mail). The following (7) Chart Entries need to be moved from here to the My Fair Lady-Original Cast Album (currently #7 in 1956). 1.UK 1-156 weeks (1958). 2. US Cashbox 1 of 1957. 3. US number 1 for 8 weeks. 4. Library of Congress (1956). 5. Germany 1 for 96 weeks (July 1962). 6. Grammy Hall of Fame (1956). 7. US 3X Platinum (Nov. 1986). This would just leave the last (3) Chart Entries related to Original Soundtrack which should automatically transfer to 1965. Would this work?
We've tried to assign to Frederick Loewe (for the stage show) and Original Soundtrack for the film

2nd Request - Van Cliburn
#13 - Piano Concerto No. 1 - Tchaikovsky was selected for Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002. Google Grammy Hall of Fame. It is listed under "P" for Piano Concerto.
No Grammy Hall of Fame classical albums have been added because of the confusion between composer and performer

#6 - The Music Man - Original Cast
This album is #260 on RIAA Songs of the Century list. When you Google this, you'll find several websites but all show the same list; made up of (348) singles & (17) albums (clearly labeled). Your decision whether to use or not.

#6 - The Music Man - Original Cast
This album is also on RIAA List (#260).
Which RIAA list?

#1 - Frederick Loewe - My Fair Lady
There is a major problem with this listing. Most of the chart entries here relate to the Original Cast recording of My Fair Lady (currently listed in 1956 as #7). To further complicate matters the last (3) chart entries here relate to the Original Soundtrack of My Fair Lady which would be in either 1964 or 1965. I don't see that album listed yet but maybe it will be. The bottom line is this entry here should be eliminated and combined with the (2) albums mentioned above. Thanks.
You are right, this is a mess but we're trying to work out the best fix

Miles Davis
Thanks for amending the double entry of Jonah Jones Swingin' On Broadway. However, the new entry of Miles Davis & The Modern Jazz Giants seems to be from 1959, not 1958.
Best regards, Flemming
The issue is that for 1958 we don't have a lot of charts so, at the bottom of the list just a single entry is enough to put an album in the charts.
We suspect that you are correct in asserting that this album was released in 1959, however the chart we have gives us a year of 1958 so that's the year we assign it to. In that particular case the music was recorded in 1954 and 1956, so its possible that it was released somewhere in 1958. We've found that unless there is firm evidence we should give a chart the benefit of the doubt.
To be honest the correct way to overcome this issue would be to limit the 1958 album listing to the 90 or so albums that have more credible chart entries.
Thanks for the input

Jonah Jones
I have taken a special interest in music from 1958, the year I was born, and find this list very useful!
It seems to me that entry No. 100 and No. 96 may be the same album. Has Jonah Jones recorded Swingin' On Broadway in two different versions, with and without the quartet?
Best regards Flemming Denmark
It is almost certainly just that the credited artist is different in the different charts. We've made the entries consistent, thanks for pointing out the issue.
