Charts+
The chart entries need to be adjusted somehow. Well, For eg, France has only10 songs each week, Switzerland has 20 songs each week. So number 11 from France didn't receive any point when number 20 from Switzerland got some. France is apparently a bigger market. To conclude , I don't think those hits under number 75 from US or under 20 from Scandinavia should receive high points. It really needs adjustment+
We have speant many years adjusting and tuning the algorithm. There is no perfect set of parameters but this is about as good as we can get it (read the FAQ)

DOES ANYONE KNOW THIS SONG FROM THE 70S
Hope you're still following this after five years! The song is called 'Here's To Love' by John Christie - it staggered just outside the British Top 20 in late 1976, so you won't find it listed here. You probably won't find itreissued anywhere either, as the rights are held by Dave Clark (of DC5 fame)

falling
i remember a song call falling from 1978 cant remember who sang it who was it?
If you had tried looking in the index, or even doing a search in the Google box at the top of this page you would have found that "Falling" is one of the top 1000 song titles. Looking at the songs listed there would have shown you that "Leblanc & Carr" had a hit with the song in 1978. It was only a hit in the US so failed to make the 1978 list.

cars
the CARS aren't even labeled (whats the deal)!!! they had some pretty good songs from '77
The page about "The Cars" (http://tsort.info/music/wxykn5.htm) has details of their hit songs. According to Wikipedia their first single was the song "Just What I Needed" which was released by Elektra in early 1978. You will see that our listing shows it entering the Billboard chart in June 1978.
This site lists songs in the charts (which is of course a slightly different thing from "good songs"). Our listing correctly shows that The Cars had no hits in 1977, their chart career started in 1978.
Of course many of the songs on their first album were being performed (in New England and elsewhere) in 1977, however they were not hits until later.
Their early singles did not gather enough chart entries to be listed in the year pages (we only list the top 100 songs of each year). You could have found the artist pages: by searching on the "Songs" page or the "Song Artists" page; by looking at the "Page index for artists"; or by looking at the site index (under "C" on the "Carol - Chalk" page).

The Wombles
Why are The Wombles not in this list?
There are two different reasons why "The Wombles" are not in this list. Firstly while they had 10 hit songs in the UK they only had a single US hit (which peaked at #55) and a single New Zealand success (peaking at #5). They were not international enough to make the list.
Secondly, even if they had made the cut, they would not have been in this list (the songs of 1978) since all the singles were originally released in 1974 or 1975.
