Les Paul and Mary Ford
In 1950 Paul/Ford had a religious song on the hit parade about the VirginMary. +No one remembers it and I can't find it anywhere. +I'm beginning to think that I imagined this. +Does anyone know????
In 1950 most of the songs were credited to the "Les Paul Trio", Maybe try that?

#11 - Patti Page - All My Love (Bolero)
Per my e-mail dated 5 Dec 2015; I feel the "Bolero" part of this title shouldbe removed. You had removed it; then added it on again.
This is a tricky one. The most reliable input we have includes the "(Bolero)" in addition it clearly was there on the record label (see http://www.45cat.com/record/5455x45 ) but you are right we should link it to other versions of the same song. We re-fixed the data thanks

#13 - Patti Page - All My Love (Bolero)
I feel the "Bolero" part of this Title should be removed. Per Wikipedia & JoelWhitburn this is the same song as Bing Crosby's version (#32) & Percy Faith's version (#56) as well as Guy Lombardo & Dennis Day. That should move this song back into the Top 1000 Song Titles.
Data fixed, thanks

1950 song lyrics
Hi,
There was a song called "Trois fois Merci" (music by Paul Durand) +that was a big hit in France in 1950. +A version with English words (other than the title !) called "Merci Cherie Merci" had some mild success. +Do you have any idea where I can find the sheet music or the words to the English version ? +Many thanks.
At this site we just have chart data, we can tell you that "Trois Fois Merci" was a hit for Jacqueline Francois in France in 1950. We have nothing called "Merci Cherie Merci" but (probably a different song) "Merci Cherie" by Udo Jurgens won the EuroVision Song Contest in 1966 and that Vince Hill and Ronny Temmer had minor hits with it the same year (in the UK and Flanders).

Do you mean "Solomon Linda & The Evening Birds" who sang "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" (which was copied by The Weavers and called "Wimoweh" because they misheard the lyrics)

This was a joint recording with the Weavers. It was also a #2 Billboard Hit.
You are correct, but this is one of those hard ones. The credit for Decca 27077 in the Billboard chart is to "Weavers (Gordon Jenkins & His Orchestra)", so our decision is to credit all versions to "Gordon Jenkins & The Weavers" rather than either "Gordon Jenkins" or "The Weavers".
Thanks for pointing out the issue

chanson latino

unknown song/don cherry or don cornell?
I'm going nuts trying to find a song title with some of these lyrics:
I will never change,I'll always love you..while the stars above you, shine down from up above..and as the years go by your kiss will still be, all I need to thrill me...(I'm at your beckoned call?)*
not sure....I am 78 years old and still looking for this one
A quick Google search suggests Don Cherry's "Band of Gold" from 1956.

ka viva +viva vit 7-1 11
This song is ...The Loins Sleep Tonight
The song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" had a chorus like:
"Wee dee dee dee, dee dee dee dee dee, dee wee dum um away, A-wimoweh, a-wimoweh, a-wimoweh, a-wimoweh"
Which was based on a mishearing of the original Zulu lyrics.
We can't see any way that "Ka viva viva vit" could map to that song (but you may be right of course).
So, thanks for contributing but we think you are not right on this occasion.

Duplicate Entry
You have Teresa Brewer "Music! Music! Music!" twice--as #7 and #47. Is this a case of the #47 version being a different artist? It was such a big hit, I cannot believe that the Teresa Brewer version would not be in the top 10.
You are correct, the data has been updated, thanks for the suggestion

Maybe you can help
My brothers and I remember a record Dad used to play that had a chorus that sounded like they were singing "Ka viva viva vit". We're all in our early 60's so the song was probably written or being played about the period of 5 years either side of 1950.
It was sung by a group, male and female in close harmony and had a bit of accordian in there and sounded a bit "Jo Stafford-ish". I can sing the tune all the way through but don't know the words and don't know the title. Do you have any idea what it could be called?
Here at the Turret we have no idea, maybe one of our users can help?

1950 Song in Italy
This is great, but, I was wondering if you knew what songs were out in Italy in 1950? Thank you.
The web site http://www.hitparadeitalia.it/hp_yends/index.html has a list of the top 100 songs in Italy for each year from 1947 to 2009.
That is the only source we have for Italian music in the 1950s

Songs from year 1950
Is there a cd around with this music on? Wanted for a special b
There is no CD with exactly these tracks on (as far as we know). However there are many great 1950s compilation CDs which have some of them. And you can always download individual tracks from an Australian music download site like bigpondmusic.com or iTunes Australia or amazon.com's international pages.

I'd like to believe Gordon Jenkins (13) and The Weavers (20) joined together on Goodnight Irene. Points should be combined. I even think it was the biggest selling single of 1950 worldwide.
Yes, you are correct the song was a joint effort. Thanks for the correction
Personally I suspect that it was the second best selling song of 1950 after Patti Page's version of "Tennessee Waltz" (but of course given the lack of validated charts you could well be right)
