Frank Crumit - Frankie and Johnnie

Thanks for putting this data together. It's amazing. Respectfully I wanted topoint out that Frankie and Johnny as listed on here was not recorded in 1921 as far as I can tell, but in 1927, which the chart section lists along with a RYM listing of 1921

The year listed is when the song was a hit, not when it was released. The source chart claims the song came from 1921 so that's the year we tag it with.

In this case we suspect that you are correct and the RYM chart is in error, however we don't have enough evidence to justify modifying the original data.

#1 & 36 Rhapsody in Blue

Both of these recordings are by Paul Whiteman & his Orchestra with GeorgeGershwin at the piano. The first one is from 1924 and the second one from 1927. I would think the second one should be moved to the 1927 list.

If we change the credit for the 1924 recording to George Gershwin that will (sort of) sort out the confusion

Thanks for telling us the issue

Double Listing - I'm Coming Virginia

Per Joel Whitburn, #91 (Bix Beiderbecke) & #100 (Frankie Trumbauer) are the same. Beiderbecke played on Trumbauer's recording of this.

Data fixed, thanks

Double Listing - Singin' the Blues

#4 & #32 are the same. Bix Beiderbecke played on the Frankie Trumbauerrecording of this. Please disregard the e-mail I just sent previously on this.

Data fixed, thanks

Mary Lou

what are the lyrics to the song Mary Lou by the Ipana Troubadors

23 Apr 2014

Song

Was the song Charmain released in 1929

The earliest hit entries with the song "Charmaine" that we have are Guy Lombardo and Lewis James who both had hits with the song in 1927

Lucky Lindy by Nat Shilkret

Were's the song lucky lindy at???

The only person to have a hit with the song "Lucky Lindy" was Vernon Dalhart in 1927

#15 Black Bottom

This was also a # 3 Billboard Hit. The band was officially billed as Johnny Hamp and his Kentucky Serenaders.

Not according to the Bullfrog data. The song "Black Bottom" is credited to "Johnny Hamp & His Orchestra" and peaked at number 6 - Victor 20101. The number 3 hit was "Black Bottom Stomp" credited to "Jelly Roll Morton's Red Hot Peppers" - Victor 20221.

I don't love you anymore

I'm looking for a song that might be from 1927. The song was played on episode 9 of ABC's 666 Park Avenue. Here's some lyrics; "I don't love you anymore. Get away, get away from me. I know somethings I never knew before"

Daddy Boy

Searching for a song called Daddy Boy or Hot Daddy Boy. A 95 year old lady here in town knows the lyrics and said she sang it when she was nine while her older sister played it on the piano.

Not having any luck finding it. Thanks in advance. Gary

We have no song with a title of "Daddy Boy" anywhere in the title.

The most obvious candidate would be "Danny Boy (Londonderry Air)" which was written in 1913 and first became a hit in 1918 (for Ernestine Schumann-Heink). Of course it is still a popular song for those with Irish ancestry (and those that want to imagine they have Irish ancestry).

Shepherd of the Hills

I think your correspondent, Frank Leibenberg may be referring to the song which begins, 'Shepherd of the hills I hear you calling'....it was published in 1927.

50 Blue Yodel

This recording is the same as No. 1 in the 1928 list.

You are correct, the data has been changed, thanks for the suggestion
