gold records?
Dear Sir, I am a bit puzzled about the descriptions of the awards for singles. I have always assumed that singles selling a million copies were classified as 'platinum' records. However, it sometimes seems as if they are referred to as 'gold' records. I was particularly conscious of this when reading the entries for Booker T & the MGs, where the single 'Green onions' is referred to as a 'gold' record. So far as I am aware the record sold over a million copies and should consequently be referred to as platinum. I note that two other singles by Booker T are referred to as 'gold' - Time is tight and Soul Limbo. However, to my knowledge neither of them sold a million copies.
Sorry to trouble you
Adrian
Sales figures and the way they are reported are more often about boosting sales than accuracy.
