Album artist 1 - The Beatles |
|
This page lists the album chart runs of The Beatles. A list of songs by The Beatles can be found
here.
The albums are listed with the most widely successful first.
Despite only being active for the period 1963-1970 The Beatles were
the most successful chart act
of all time, as well as having the most years on top of the
song and
album charts.
They produced three of the top 10
highest placed albums
of all time (including the number one album). John Lennon, Paul McCartney,
George Harrison and Ringo Starr all also
went on to individual success as well.
Related artist names include Tony Sheridan & The Beatles,
Stu Sutcliffe, Pete Best, The Silver Beatles,
The Quarrymen. They are also commonly referred to as The Fab Four.
The names of the early albums are difficult to sort out since they often released different
albums in different markets with distinct (but overlapping) sets of songs.

Double Listing-Please Please Me/Introducing the Beatles
Per both Acclaimed Music & Wikipedia, #18 (Please Please Me) & #32(Introducing... The Beatles) are the same. They are identical except Please Please Me has (2) additional tracks. The first was released in the UK & the second in the US. I feel they should be combined with the title 'Please Please Me/Introducing... the Beatles'. Your thoughts?
In the past we did try and sort out the first Beatles albums (up to "Help!"), all of which were released somewhere else (usually the UK/ US) with different names and overlapping sets of songs . Our decision then was to *not* try and sort this out, but rather to let the reader. This one is fairly simple but consider "Beatles '65", "Beatles for Sale", "Beatles VI" and "A Hard Day's Night". Finding a strategy that consistently dealt with that set was beyond us.
We felt that adjusting names in this case and not fixing the harder ones would be inconsistent. Our inclination is to leave it

Double Listing-The Beatles (The White Album)
#4 & #33 are the same. The UK Chart Entry is a recharting of the original 1968 entry.
Where there is a clear gap of more than 10 years between chart runs we generally try to differentiate. The CD was released on 24 Aug 1987, so naming it differently seems right to us.

The Beatles with The Beatles (White Album) was nr.1 in over 34 countries?
If you look at the listing for the album it tells you which countries we have data for: UK, US, West Germany, Norway, Australia, France and Italy for example. It is almost certainly true that it was the number one album in more than 34 countries, but we lack data to show that. For example countries such as Poland, Russia and East Germany (that were behind the Iron Curtain at the time), it was illegal to have a copy so reliable charts are somewhat sparse.
We don't have the data for 34 country's album charts from the 1960s. We can tell you that "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" was number one in 16 charts

Yellow Submarine Songtrack
Hi,
Thanks for your response. Yellow Submarine Songtrack was released in 1999 and charted in both the USA, UK and other charts around the world. It is different to the original Yellow Submarine Album in that it omits the George Martin film score and includes other songs that were featured in the film.
Regards.
Thanks for the info. I (Steve) have a copy of the original soundtrack on 12" vinyl, I must admit I don't played the "George Martin" side.

Beatles Yellow Submarine Song Track
I think this site is brilliant: full of interesting facts and far more beleivable than a lot of other information out there.
Going through this section I noticed there is no mention of the Yellow Submarine Song Track Album. Is there a particular reason for this?
Regards
We're not sure we understand the question. The album "Yellow Submarine" is listed here (it was the sountrack for the movie). There was also a "Yellow Submarine" EP, that is listed on the songs page (it reached number 1 in many countries despite being an EP).
In the UK for the late 1960s there was a seperate EP chart, however it was so short lived that most sites (us included) merge those entries into the songs chart. This is the approach that was adopted by Guinness.
