International One Hit Albums
To qualify as a "One Hit Album" act they must have just a single
hit album in as many charts as possible. Of course a second hit album anywhere in
the world would disqualify them. Unlike
songs albums tend to take a few
years to create, so we have excluded acts whose first album came after 2005,
by the time you read this they may well have delivered that difficult second album.
A simple summing of album scores would just tell us in which years we have lots of
source chart information, so the scores are adjusted (in the same way as they
are for the greatest songs list) to take into account
the total number of input chart entries in each
year. Here is the list of the 100 most widely internationally successful one hit albums.

It seems there are four main categories of act that qualify:
- Acts specially created for a single album, for example "USA For Africa"
- Duets or trios of otherwise successful acts that came together for an album, for example
Celine Dion & James Horner. These are often related to
a particular film, musical show or special concert
- Combinations of related acts that have been brought together for a
greatest hits type album, such as Sting & The Police.
- True "One hit Wonders" that recorded just a single success, such as
"Four Non Blondes".
