One of the categories of data model defined in the ANSI Four Schema Model, a Conceptual Schema is a consistent, but usually incomplete, consolidation of data model requirements. That is a data model that consolidates the inconsistent views in the External Schemas but has not yet achieved the completeness required of a Logical Data Model This is the state that information architecture works best in. If there is no need to consolidate then the rigour is not required, if there is enough clarity to create a Logical Data Model then the more conventional data modelling tools should be used instead.
