Balance Triangle

When three elements must add up to 100% they can be depicted as a Balance Triangle diagram. Each point in the triangle represents a different strategy, with the constraint that the total contribution of the three factors must be 100%.

If the purpose is to explore the optimal balance of the components then the triangle can be filled as a phase diagram showing for example the contours of the total cost of ownership or locations within the area that have unacceptable properties (such as response times being too long for the system to be usable).
