Workflow

Could mean any one of three quite distinct things, the sequence of activities carried out to achieve a business goal, the set of steps carried out in a process or the way that a particular effect is achieved in an application.

Unfortunately many people confuse these three and use the term "workflow" to mean all of them. The vendors of application software have an incentive to confuse them.
