Zero Sum Game

A situation in which one person's gain is exactly matched by another's loss. In contrast to a Win/Win Situation

This metaphor is from game theory. In today's competative environment it is common for business people to assume that all situations are Zero Sum Games. That is that "nice guys finish last". Whereas the opposite is often the case, usually cooperating with other people and organisations will deliver a better result for everyone.
