A template or model which can be used to describe a range of situations. In architecture a pattern is an archetypal and reusable descriptions of elements of the design.

Patterns provide concrete encapsulation of aspects of current and future practice. All patterns by being rooted in actual practice acknowledge the principles that a design must follow.

The concept of the pattern is core to the way all types of architect work. Identifying the common patterns within a domain is the first step to creating systematic solutions for the stakeholders.
