The implementation and support of computer-based information systems, the practical aspects of day-to-day management in contrast to, for example Computer Science.

Information Technology is a vocational approach. It is not uncommon for experienced IT professionals to have little or no background in Computer Science, especially the more theoretical aspects such as Information Theory, Data Modelling and complexity.
