Summary historical, current, and predictive views of business operations. The term is used to refer both to the definition of these metrics and the gathering of this data.

Business intelligence often aims to support better business decision-making, hence it is sometimes referred to as a Decision Support System.

Relation to Information Architecture

The most important aspect of Business Intelligence is creating a widely understood model of the corporation. This allows the values obtained from different groups to be compared and contrasted with each other. If Business Intelligence is not based on an agreed set of metrics then the various data sources cannot be compared.
